English Curriculum Overview

The CityKids English curriculum identifies annual learning objectives for 9 levels, ranging from beginners through to Grade 5.

At each level, the curriculum focuses on 4 skills; Reading, Writing, Oral Communication and Literary Appreciation. Each skill has a list of expected learning objectives at each level.

The learning objectives encompass a subset of skills and knowledge required for effective speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing and representing in English. As students progress through each level, they are expected to acquire new skills and knowledge or gain further experience, competence and mastery of existing skills.

The learning objectives are covered across 6 units of work taught throughout the academic year. Each unit has a theme that feeds into the learning objectives for the unit. The class teacher will plan a range of lessons to suit the needs of her learners and ensure that the objectives are covered. They will also carry out regular assessments at the end of each unit to ensure that progress is being made. It is expected that at the end of an academic year, each child will progress to the next level.

Recommended age*

The CityKids community comprises children from a range of backgrounds and therefore, varying levels of knowledge and competency in English. As a result of this, there are often discrepancies between age and expected levels of English. The CityKids Curriculum accounts for this by assessing and evaluating all children before placing them in an English class (or level). This allows us to find a best-fit class which is based on a balance of knowledge, ability and age. Where there are exceptions, some children may be offered a place in a class with slightly older or younger children.

CityKids is Expanding

March 3, 2014

Dear CityKids Families,

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for being part of our community. Whether we see you daily, monthly, yearly, or once in a blue moon, you have helped develop CityKids into the prosperous community that it is. Without your support, we would not have opened a nursery school, a robotics class, CPR workshops or our mommy and me playgroup.

After three delightful years of growth, CityKids is now hosting over 2,000 families from all over the world. Our English classes have grown in popularity, with over 80 children registered, and a new official curriculum written by a veteran primary school teacher was launched last October. We are running one of the most reputable nursery schools in the city employing highly-qualified teachers, offering engaging programs and a nurturing environment. It is a place that many of you now regard as a home away from home.

Due to the success of our nursery school, CityKids is now in the process of expanding, working on a new project that we are due to launch in April 2014.  It is an ambitious plan that will mean the opening of a second nursery school located at Ibn Gvirol 188.  We have been putting forth great effort in order to finalize details and are happy to share with you the following details:

Four age groups, for children born between 9/2010 and 3/2014 (children born between 9/2013-3/2014 will be in our Spinoza location)

Small student-teacher ratios

Beautiful design, furniture and resources in every classroom

Qualified teachers and staff

Availability for 15 children (born before January 1, 2013) to start April 23, 2014

Tuition: 3,500nis Full Day, 2,700nis Half Day

However, because we need to devote so much of our time and so many of our resources to making this new venture a reality, I am sorry to have to say that CityKids will not be running its Annual Purim Party or Passover and Summer Camps this year.  We feel that because we need to work so hard on our expansion, we cannot offer the high-quality experience at camp you have all come to expect of us.

Any family interested in registering for April 2014 or September 2014 are welcome to download the attached Nursery School Enrollment Form and complete the application.

Applications will be accepted in person, on a first come, first served basis on Friday, March 7th from 8:30-12:00.

We look forward to this next step and thank you for all your support along the way.

Sincerely,

Elvia Fisher

CityKids Director
